The History of Murphytown

Sixteen or so years ago we jumped onto the web. The Net was no stranger to us (even then), but with the attraction of graphics, we finally upgraded to the world of browsers. Being engineering types, we learned ourselves HTML and tinkered with our first web page.

As with anyone who has a web page, the question arises...

What do we call it?

Well, the answer we found was on the side of a little ceramic train station that my mother-in-law had made for us. In fact, she had made us an entire ceramic village over the years (little by little) for our train tables that we set up each Christmas. Every town must have a name of course, and our little train station introduced the Christmas visitor to

"Murphytown"

Thus, our home page had a name as well.

As the years zoomed by, the kids "learned themselves" HTML too, but like myself, have "grageated" to the use of wysiwyg tools. The learning experience for them was good until they discovered the world of MP3. Now they spend more of their time downloading music instead of updating their web pages. Oh well. As for me, we still rotate our home page through its seasonal themes and add a bit here and there. I have tinkered with frames and Java, but still prefer the software engineers KISS rule (keep it simple stupid).

Well in this ever-changing world of ISPs, It became apparent that it was time to have that permanent place on the web. Thus the Murphytown.net domain name was born in early 2000.

And now after all these years, yet more examples of how the world is getting smaller. It turns out, there is a real Murphytown in West Virginia. We will have to check that out since my dad was from Morgantown. And yet another coincidence... The Murphytown domain name has become a triad.

The latter and lower vertices being no relation we assure you.
